The Yampa River runs throught Steamboat Colorado and provides one of the best locations to learn the basics of river kayaking.  A variety of classes are offered through out the summer.

Never-Ever Classes – Daily at 9 AM and 1 PM (and sometimes we have an evening class at 5 PM) starting in spring. In our 1/2 day class guests will become familiar with their kayaks, paddle strokes and river safety.  After practicing our newly learned skills in the pond we paddle down a gentle stretch of the Yampa River through Steamboat Springs. Group rate ($75) semi-private-2 people ( $125 ea) and private lessons ($210) plus city river use fee.

Intermediate/Advanced Classes – Available once or twice per week.  Tune up and improve your kayak skills.  Eddy turns, ferrying, surging, hole riding, squirt moves, cartwheels, and rolling are all covered.  1/2 day to 5 day classes offered.  Call for availability.  Group rate ($75) semi-private-2 people ( $125 ea) and private lessons ($210) plus city river use fee.

Roll Clinic - Available weekly.  ($45 group 2 hour lesson)
 

Kids Classes  - Run throughout the summer starting the beginning of June. A five day morning class for age 9-18. Runs Monday through Friday 9-12.  $149 for the week long clinic.  Instruction is focused on strokes, maneuvers, technique, and rolling. We progress through these skills as we build both skills and confidence and provide a structured and supportive environment for learning, in a friendly and fun atmosphere. We begin with basic boat control and balance, performing peel-outs, eddy turns, and ferries, and work our way up to slightly more advanced skills such as edging, bracing, beginning surfing, reading water, group awareness/safety, river strategy, scouting, rope throwing, and self-rescue. The goal is to have the knowledge and the skill to run rivers skillfully and playfully.

Kayak birthday and wedding parties - can also be scheduled during the day or evening.  A unique group activity for your special occasion.  Call for pricing.

Guide Service  -  Available for those not familiar with the rivers in our area.

            Barry Smith has been exploring rivers and canyons most of his life.  He has been featured in magazines and on “National Geographic Explorer”, kayaking the Grand Canyon of the Colorado and the Hvita River Gorge in Iceland.  He is also a fully certified Alpine and Nordic Examiner for the Rocky Mountain Region and is a former PSIA Demo Team Member.
